Reform and opening up broadens China’s civilian diplomacy

In 1985, the law of the People's Republic of China on the entry and exit of foreigners was promulgated. It was the first regulation issued by the Chinese government regarding the entry of foreigners. 244 regions in China were officially opened to foreigners.

Since the beginning of the new century, with the great achievements of China's reform and opening up, visits of foreign youth have become increasingly frequent.

The Shanghai International Youth Interactive Friendship Camp in which Caroline leads students to participate is a typical international cultural exchange themed activity. This brand activity of Shanghai foreign exchange, sponsored bythe Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC) and the Shanghai Youth Federation and undertaken by the Shanghai Youth Activity Center, has been held fourteen times.

As a teacher, Caroline knows well that it’s not easy to organize such an activity.“As a tutor, I deeply understand that this is not easy and even very difficult, because each program should be carefully planned. It is really no easy job.”
